TRAMPOLINE & TUMBLING COMPETITION
NORTH CAROLINA
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
On Saturday, April 22nd, Carolina Beach was the host for the 2006 North Carolina Trampoline & Tumbling State Championships. The competition was held at the Carolina Beach Recreation Center. Attending the competition were eleven teams from around the state with one hundred and seventy nine athletes.
The local gymnastic school - Coastal Tumblegym of Carolina Beach played host for this event with the help and dedicated effort of the coaching staff, the Trampoline & Tumbling Parent's and the Tumblegym Gymnastic Team girls.
In addition, the other ten teams, their coaches and the athletes' parents were instrumental in the great success of this important competition. Without the commitment and help of the other teams, their coaches and parents, this competition would not have been possible. The meet was sanctioned by the USA Gymnastic - Trampoline & Tumbling organization.
The state championship event is the first qualifier for these athletes to go to National Championships. The next competition is Regional Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, which is the final opportunity for the athletes to qualify to go to Nationals and will be held June 2-3, 2006. National Championships will be held in Chicago, Illinois from July 6-15.
The Trampoline & Tumbling competitions consists of three events: Power Tumbling - which is performed on a spring loaded floor that is 6 feet wide and eighty four feet long; Trampoline - which has a seven foot by fourteen foot rectangular bed and allows the athletes to jump as high as twenty five feet in the air. Trampoline has been an Olympic sport since the 2000 Olympics. The third event is the Double-Mini Trampoline which is an angled trampoline bed measuring three feet by ten feet. The angle allows the athletes to run up at full speed and take off from the tramp bed, somersault, and land and somersault again and dismount to a landing mat. This event is compared to tumbling and diving all in one.
The parents organizing and assisting in this event were: Kimberly Aldridge, Lisa Buchanan, Iris Cannon, Lisa Casey, Carol & Paul Devine, Virginia & Fleet Helms, Gail Jones, Scott & Terry Jones, Betsy & Michael Lord, Chris Marello, Anna Penny, Linda Proetsch, and Brian Bocnuk.
Also assisting in the event were Sabrina Buchanan, the Tumblegym Girls Gymnastic Team including: April Bass, Emma Bingham, Morgan Cooper, Meghan Gallimore, McKenzie Hitchcock, Taeler Ott, Halyn Prusa, Kelsey Robertson, Kayleigh Robinson, Hannah Taylor, Juliana Velazquez, Bailey Watson, and Erin Wood
Fleet Helms and Darrel Foland organized and ran the concessions with Boy Scout Troop 256. Denise Angevine and Jill Shoffner managed the computer scoring. Mary Ellen Prance was the computer program developer.
A special Thank You to the Carolina Beach Recreation Department: - Ted Lashley, Lani Thompson, Carley Jones and Tim Murphy for their help and assistance at the Recreation building.
Our two local Judges consists of: Virginia Beury-Helms, Superior
Judge on Double-Mini Trampoline; and Fleet (VJ) Helms, Aesthetic Judge
on Power Tumbling.
Fifteen athletes from the Tumblegym's Trampoline & Tumbling Team competed in the competition and the team consists of: Amber Aldridge, Erica Buchanan, Kelly Cannon, Tori Casey, Tyler Devine, Brooke Faulkner, Tyler Faulkner (recovering from an injury), Eli Helms, Kelly Jones, Phelan Jones, Rachel Jones, Rebecca Lord, Becca Penny, Victoria Proetsch, Mia Shoffner, and Katelin Walker.
All total, our local athletes achieved fourteen First places, six Second places, seven Third places, two Fourth places, four Fifth places, two Sixth places, one Seventh place, one Ninth place, three Tenth places, one Eleventh place, and one Fifteenth place. The team is coached by John Casey, Bobbie Benton, Jill Shoffner, and Jason Sommers.

TUMBLEGYM - TRAMPOLINE & TUMBLING COMPETITION
C & B FLIP FORCE INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The Tumblegym Trampoline and Tumbling Team competed at the C & B Flip Force Trampoline & Tumbling Invitational this past weekend in Kernersville, NC. The competition was the second qualifier meet for the USAG - North Carolina Trampoline & Tumbling State Championships. Fourteen athletes from the Tumblegym's Trampoline & Tumbling Team competed in the competition. Also, attending the competition were eleven teams with one hundred and eighty six athletes. This Invitational meet included teams from the states of: North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The meet was sponsored by the USA Gymnastic - Trampoline & Tumbling organization.
All total, our local athletes achieved seventeen First places, six Second places, three Third places, six Fourth places, three Fifth places, one Sixth place, one Eighth place and two Ninth places. The team is coached by John Casey, Bobbie Benton, and Jill Shoffner.

Parents,
We need to get a team picture of everyone for the program at the Ultimate Meet in Greensboro. We will also use this picture for our internet site which we would like to upgrade. Please have your child bring their new team warm-up to practice on Tuesday.
If your child hasn't received their warm-up (3 athletes) - we will have a borrowed one for them to use for the photo. We will do the pictures at the end of the 4:00 - 5:30 team workout.
We would appreciate it if the older team athletes (5:30 - 7:30 team class) can get to the gym a few minutes early so that we can do a turn around of classes and get everyone on their way.
If you have other obligations, with everyone's' cooperation, we should be able to do this in about 10 minutes. Please reply by email so that we can call anyone that did not receive it in time.
